Lessons Learned After Being A Dad For 4 Months

24 November, 2005 (10:42) | Family | By: Alexander Raiano III

This is a post that I put together a long time ago but for some reason I didn’t publish it. Alex is now 9 months old!

In the spirit of a post I put together when Alex was only two weeks old, I’ve decided to put together this post which talks about my lessons that I’ve learned after being a Dad for 4 months :).

  1. Don’t wake a sleeping baby: This rule has been carried over from the last post. Enough said..
  2. Take pictures: Shelly and I have been great about taking pictures. Alex changes on a daily basis. I feel good that we’ve captured a lot of great moments. In fact, last month I took all of the videos we have taken and I put them on a DVD for the grandparents. I’m glad that Shell and I didn’t purchase a camcorder because our camera does a good enough job taking video.
  3. It keeps on getting better: This entire experience has been nothing but wonderful. At first, it was a little difficult because we were getting use to Alex and he was getting use to us. It really is amazing how quick you become “veteran parents. I remember the first time we tried to leave the house with Alex. It almost seemed like it was impossible. Now it just feels like the norm. I can’t imagine our life without him. Shell always says that if she could guarantee that every baby would be like him she would have 1,000 kids. That seems like a lot of kids to me. How about you?
  4. It’s not that easy to put together toys: Putting together some of Alex’s toys was rather difficult. Just the other day I decided to put together his excersaucer. I couldn’t believe how long it took me. Granted I am not the most mechanically inclined person however; they make the toys so damn difficult….Arrgh! ;).
  5. Establish a playroom: Shell and I have started to convert our one time office into a playroom. Based on the number of toys Alex currently has and the number of toys, I am sure he will be getting, it only made sense to designate one room as the “official playroom. The room is coming along rather fast. Shell and I decided on a theme that we found in one of the pottery barn kids catalogs. I’ll post some pics once the room is complete.
  6. Time flies when you are having fun: I can’t believe that 4 months have already come and gone. It almost makes me sad to see how big Alex has gotten. At his last weigh in, he weighed 14lbs! We’ve already had to put away a bunch of his clothes :(.
